Sotiris Vardoulakis
Sotiris Vardoulakis is Lecturer in Environmental Exposure Assessment, in the Public & Environmental Health Research Unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Prior to joining the LSHTM, he worked as Lecturer in Air Pollution in the University of Birmingham, Research Fellow in the Department of Environment & Planning of the University of Aveiro (Portugal), Project Development Officer in the Sussex Air Quality Partnership, and Research Scientist in the National Institute for Environmental and Industrial Risks (INERIS, France).
His first degree was in Physics (University of Athens), followed by an MSc in Environmental Technology (Imperial College London) and a PhD in Air Pollution (University of Greenwich).
His main research interests include outdoor and indoor air pollution, environmental health, exposure assessment, health impact analysis, risk assessment, air quality management, dispersion modelling, environmental monitoring and urban climatology.
Sotiris has contributed to several national and international research projects, including:
- Pollutants in the Urban Environment (PUrE), funded by EPSRC under the Sustainable Urban Environment Programme;
- Pollutants in the Urban Environment: An Integrated Framework for Improving Sustainability of the Indoor Environment (PUrE Intrawise), funded by EPSRC under the Sustainable Urban Environment Programme;
- Integrated Assessment of Health Risks of Environmental Stressors in Europe (INTARESE), funded by the EU FP6;
- Measurement and Modelling of Exposure to Air Toxic Concentrations for Health Effect Studies (MATCH), funded by the Health Effects Institute (USA);
- Advanced Tools for Rational Energy Use towards Sustainability with emphasis on microclimatic issues in urban applications (ATREUS), funded by the EU FP5.
Sotiris has held honorary appointments with the School of Geography, Earth & Environmental Sciences of the University of Birmingham, and the School of Chemical & Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM).
